Sober & Curious Boston | Case for Support

Building Community. Creating Connection.

Welcoming, alcohol-free ways to belong across Boston, Greater Boston, the South Shore, and Cape Cod.

Two significant trends are reshaping the American social landscape: declining alcohol consumption and growing recognition of loneliness and social isolation as public health concerns. Together, they highlight the need for welcoming opportunities to connect without alcohol.

For people in recovery and those reducing or abstaining from alcohol, supportive social environments can be difficult to find. Yet everyone deserves opportunities to build friendships, discover new interests, and experience belonging without the pressure to drink.

Our Mission: To foster meaningful connection and build supportive communities through shared alcohol- and substance-free experiences.

Founded in 2025 by individuals in recovery, Sober & Curious Boston (SCB) is an intentionally inclusive nonprofit welcoming people regardless of their relationship with alcohol.

From One Hike to a Growing Community

SCB began with a hike in July 2025. Since then, we’ve brought people together through outdoor adventures, fitness classes, creative workshops, social gatherings, and educational experiences across Boston, Greater Boston, the South Shore, and Cape Cod.

Since July 2025
  • 1,200+In-person event participations
  • 45+In-person community events
  • 8,700+Members of online community

Ticketed events consistently sell out, and participants return to build friendships that reach well beyond any single event.

“So many spaces are centered around recovery itself and the structure of programs. What SCB has created feels entirely different and is built around connection, joy, and the idea that life can still be beautiful, social, vibrant, and deeply fulfilling without alcohol at the center of it.”

Priorities for 2027

  1. Make Programming More Accessible

Offer weekly in-person events in Boston and Greater Boston, bi-monthly gatherings on the South Shore and Cape Cod, and regular virtual experiences.

  2. Empower Community Leaders

Launch a volunteer ambassador program that builds leadership, confidence, and self-efficacy, with members leading gatherings, leading outreach efforts, and strengthening their own communities.

  3. Expand Outreach and Partnerships

Build relationships with recovery and mental health providers, community-based organizations, and other partners to connect more people with Sober & Curious Boston.

  4. Grow Educational and Virtual Offerings

Expand our virtual author conversations and introduce educational discussions and workshops that foster learning and connection.

Invest in Connection. Strengthen Community.

Your support will make alcohol-free experiences more accessible, empower volunteer leaders, expand outreach, and sustain the coordination required to deliver consistent programming.

SCB is building more than a calendar of events. We are creating the spaces where people form friendships, develop supportive social networks, and find a lasting sense of belonging.

Help us create more opportunities to connect, belong, and thrive.
